Every wine bears the signature of the people who accompany and shape it.
The character of a wine is shaped, not least, by the approach of each individual winemaker. Both small decisions, such as the proportion of new oak used in a wine, and long-term considerations, for example, regarding the planting of specific grape varieties, play a crucial role. The overriding goal, however, remains to preserve and further develop the unique character and quality of the wines produced.
Irene brings a great deal of intuition and a keen sense for nature and wines. Johannes is a lateral thinker with clear visions and a profound understanding of the interrelationships between soil, vineyard, and cellar. Together, they form a balanced blend of intuitive and innovative approaches, which is reflected in the wines.
Irene Grünfelder
The Eichholz winery was founded and developed by Irene Grünenfelder. A career changer, she ventured into the wine industry and taught herself the art of winemaking. Initially, she cultivated just 30 ares of vines, but thanks to her tireless dedication and clear vision, she was able to continuously expand the business. Today, the winery covers an area of 6 hectares. Irene Grünenfelder's values, ideas, and commitment continue to shape the Eichholz winery and form the foundation for its development.
Johannes Hunger
Since autumn 2021, Johannes Hunger, the son of Irene Grünenfelder, has been a valuable addition to the Eichholz winery. After numerous years of travel and work experience, during which he gained valuable insights at various wineries in France, South Africa, New Zealand, Germany, and Switzerland, Johannes is now bringing his knowledge and passion to the family business.
Together, Irene and Johannes dedicate themselves to the demanding task of creating honest, characterful, and authentic wines. Their shared commitment and the combination of tradition and new ideas shape the further development of the Eichholz winery and ensure that the family's values and vision are carried on into the next generation.
Wingerttruppe
These two all-rounders are ably supported behind the scenes by their vineyard team. Their help is indispensable, especially during labor-intensive phases such as canopy management and grape harvesting. They make a significant contribution to ensuring that all tasks at the winery are completed smoothly and efficiently. Thanks to this dedicated team, Irene and Johannes are able to focus on producing honest, characterful, and authentic wines and to jointly drive the further development of the Eichholz winery.
